Crossing the Dolomites on skis
From the Sassolungo Group to the wild Pala and back – a ski crossing of the southwestern Dolomites for enthusiasts
There are many possibilities to cross the Dolomites on skis. This trip from Val Gardena all the way down to the Pala di San Martino in the south and back makes the heart of every ski tourer beat faster.
With the occasional support of lifts and medium-difficult ascents, we will leave our tracks in the snow in the middle of impressive rocky sceneries.
We will stay overnight in comfortable accommodation in the valleys, so that the daily stages can be covered with a light backpack.
Day 1
Greeting at 6pm in Ortisei in Val Gardena, distribution of ski passes and any required rental equipment. Dinner together and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2
We will reach the passo Sella with lifts and then after an hour walk, we will get to the Forcella del Sassolung. On the north side, a 900 m long descent between the imposing peaks of the Sassolungo group awaits us. We will stay overnight at a lovely mountain hotel on the Seiser Alm.
Day 3
Leaving our mountain hotel we will continue our tour with climbing skins through the Rosengarten (800 m ascent) and after two beautiful descents we will reach the Fassa Valley. Overnight stay at a 3 stars hotel with sauna.
Day 4
From the Val di Fassa we will reach Col Bricon via the Alpe di Lusia and then descent to San Martino di Castrozza, a beautiful village at the foot of the Pala Group. Overnight stay at a 3 stars hotel with sauna and whirlpool
Day 5
Crossing of the Pala plateau and descent through the enchanting Val Canali. Walking time barely 2 hours, downhill of over 1100. Overnight stay in San Martino di Castrozza.
Day 6
Short transfer to the Rolle Pass and short ascent with skins. Afterwards, descent through the natural Venegia Valley. Transfer to Passo Valles and on to the Passo San Pellegrino Afterwards. Overnight stay at the Rifugio Fuciade, famous for its excellent food.
Day 7
From the Rifugio Fuciade we will climb to the Forca Rossa and descent to Malga Ciapela. Then with cable cars up to the Queen of the Dolomites followed by a downhill descent over fantastic ski slopes to the Fedaia Pass. Back to Ortisei with the lifts and cab.
