Val Mesdì - Freeride with a local mountain guide

Val Mesdì in the Sella Group – the most famous freeride descent in the Dolomites

The impressive Val Mesdì cuts through the heart of the mighty Sella massif and offers a spectacular descent with more than 1,200 meters of vertical drop. Surrounded by towering rock walls, the wide valley floor often provides exceptional powder skiing conditions.

The starting point is reached via the Sellaronda, the Pordoi cable car, and an approximately one-hour scenic traverse across the Sella plateau. Short uphill sections are completed with climbing skins or skis carried on the shoulder.

Join a local mountain guide and experience an unforgettable freeride descent in one of the most spectacular valleys of the Dolomites.

Program:

We ski along the slopes of the Sellaronda from Val Gardena to Passo Pordoi. From there, the cable car takes us up to Sas de Pordoi (2,950 m), offering an impressive panoramic view of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, including Civetta, Marmolada, the Catinaccio group, and the Sassolungo group.

From this point on, we leave the ski resort and enter open freeride terrain. We descend toward the Pordoi saddle and continue with an approximately one-hour traverse to Rifugio Boè. A steep and narrow couloir then leads into the wide upper valley, known for its outstanding skiing terrain.

Shortly before Colfosco, a final short but steep section between rock walls and the stream must be negotiated before returning via the Sellaronda and Passo Gardena back into Val Gardena.
